- This tool checks plausible formatting and does not confirm that a phone number or postal code exists.
- Exact fixed-line hyphen positions depend on Japan's area-code plan, so unknown fixed-line groupings stay digits-only for review.
- Auto detection treats 〒 and 7-digit values starting with 0 as postal codes. Other 7-digit values are treated as local phone numbers; choose Postal codes for an unmarked zip column.
- The first version accepts up to 2,000 non-empty rows at a time.
FAQ
- Does this confirm that a phone number or postal code exists?
- No. It only checks and normalizes plausible formats. It does not call a phone carrier, postal database, or external API.
- Why are some fixed-line numbers left without hyphens?
- Japanese fixed-line area codes have different lengths. The tool only inserts hyphens where the grouping is known; digits-only output avoids guessing.
- Can it normalize +81 phone numbers?
- Yes. A number such as +81 90 1234 5678 becomes 09012345678, or 090-1234-5678 with common hyphen formatting.
- Are 7-digit values treated as postal codes?
- Only when the line has 〒, or the 7 digits start with 0 (Hokkaido-style codes). A local number such as 123-4567 is treated as a phone number. For an Excel postal-code column without 〒, set the input type to Postal codes.
